A Review of Essay on Criticism and Essay on Man by Jean Philippe Des Picturesque (Called Montaigne)

One of the primary assignments in college English course is article writing. Montaigne’s Essay is split to two parts. A preface introduces the author to the subject of the article and the next part is the main body of the essay writing. The introduction addresses potential mistakes in the style and grammar, while the second part offers a thorough explanation of the key points and the essay structure. Along with his role as a dominant essay author, Montaigne is also well-known for his position as a master of this essay structure. In his Essay on Criticism and Essay on Man, Montaigne develops a very clear tone, full of crisp and precise diction, and is sometimes simplistic in his discussions. But he’s not afraid to use very complicated terminology, sometimes at odds with his straightforward style. This results in an essay that may be both confusing and rewarding to read because it is difficult to understand just what has been discussed.

One of Montaigne’s most famous essays worries his experience of journeying from England to France. Writing about his reflections on the architecture of the two countries’ towns, Montaigne concludes that the buildings of each nation were equally lovely, but Paris was more beautiful because its city walls were greater than the walls of London. Even though this can appear to be a simplistic perspective, Montaigne presents a case analysis that is highly relevant to this style of essay writing which can be read now. Though Montaigne provides only a single example of the way his thoughts on architecture influenced his selection of words, this essay offers insight into the way that personal experiences can shape the way we think.
